Hi! We are the Stimperts: Trent, Rebecca, Abigail (Abby) and Hannah.  We think we're a pretty hard-working, determined family. We love where God has placed us and love that we're able to grow, produce and share our pickles with you - right here from our little farm!
The Beginning
In 1992, Trent's parents, Barry and Shirley Stimpert opened The Pickle Cottage. It primarily served wholesale markets such as Pier One Imports, Cracker Barrel Restaurants, Bloomingdale's and hundreds of gift shops. In 2004 they retired and decided to dissolve the company, leaving behind a lot of disappointed customers! But, the cherished recipes and some of the equipment remained in place.Â

Continuing The Tradition
After the unexpected deaths of both Barry and Shirley within 7 months of each other, we were faced with the possibility of losing the family farm on which Abby and Hannah are sixth generation. Our heritage is very important to us, and especially to the girls. In an effort to finance saving the farm, we decided to reopen The Pickle Cottage. Both Abby and Hannah put their lives on hold to help make this possible and are committed to making the business prosper. It wouldn't be possible without their help! Â
In August 2021, the business was inspected, licensed and the products approved by the Kansas Department of Agriculture and Round Two began.

Round Two
Round Two has taken a different approach. Instead of fulfilling huge wholesale orders, we take our pickles directly to the customers through farmer's markets, craft shows, home and ag shows, and now ONLINE!  Our slogan "Old fashioned pickles with a gourmet flair" is often reflected on the faces of customers who sample The Pickle Cottage pickles for the first time. It often takes them back to their grandma's kitchen for a moment and brings tears to their eyes.Â

An Outstanding Pickle
Freshness is the key to an outstanding pickle. The great majority of our pickles come directly from our large gardens and often go from the garden to the jar within hours. We work very hard throughout the spring and summer to produce enough products to sell until the next growing season. That means many late nights, early mornings and tired backs! Most companies use produce that has sat in a warehouse for days and has been sprayed with multiple chemicals. We use sustainable methods to grow the produce that we pickle. We grow naturally and do not use commercial pesticides and herbicides. We have a buried drip irrigation system that conserves water and we weed around our plants by hand or hoe. Click here to see our entire line of fresh, delicious pickled products!Â
